It’s not everyday that a Newbery Honor author uses our photobooth!
Last week, author-illustrator Cece Bell was awarded a Newbery Honor for her graphic novel, El Deafo. In January, Vroman’s Bookstore held a week-long community reading extravaganza featuring Cece! The Young Reader’s Leauge program, funded by a generous grant from indie bookstore champion James Patterson, made it possible for the Pasadena community to read this amazing book and participate in book clubs, essay contests, special events, school visits by the author, and a final soiree at Vroman’s bookstore!
We had the pleasure of sharing our photobooth at that soiree, and Russell also captured the excitement of this awesome event with a few photos.
It’s pretty awesome that a graphic novel won a Newbery honor! That’s a big deal.
After Cece’s presentation, the audience got a chance to show off their El Deafo flair in our photobooth.
We were so excited to be a part of this book event that we created a one-of-a-kind photobooth strip based on the book’s cover. They made perfect bookmarks.
I love this image of Cece and her mother using our booth!
And the kids had a blast too! Who can resist putting on rabbit ears, mustaches, and goofy hats?
Not many of you know this, but in addition to working for Russell Gearhart Photography, I also write children’s books on the side. It was an absolute honor to get to meet author illustrator Cece Bell, and get to see her be silly in our photobooth!
Congratulations Cece on your Newbery honor! The Pasadena community got a real treat by having you in town.
