Dear Mom,

Remember when you bought me and my brother matching pajamas? You thought we looked sooooo cute.

But then you bought us matching plaid shorts, and Christmas sweaters, and bow ties. And even though Doctor Who has made wearing bow ties cool again, I think we need to talk about your obsession.

So we’re going to get our family portrait taken soon. That’s fine. But I really don’t want my friends to look at these pictures and think we’re obsessed with flannel, or Star Trek, or Hawaii. I mean, I like pink — but Mom, enough is enough.

In the interest of creating a family heirloom that Dad and I will actually let you put on the wall, please take a look at these family portrait tips. We want to look good, but we don’t want to look like we belong on the same Where’s-Waldo-sponsored softball team. I hope you understand.
