To be a master spy, you must become a master of disguise.
The guests of Kristen Kittscher’s Wig in the Window book launch event on Thursday were more than happy to embrace this philosophy. The second level of Vroman’s bookstore was overflowing with attendees wearing blue, blond, and even rainbow colored wigs! And even those without disguises got into the spirit in front of our photobooth, trying out hats, masks, props, and more!
The Wig in the Window is the clever and hilarious debut of Pasadena local writer Kristen Kittscher. Her novel is a children’s book about best friends Sophie Young and Grace Yang, who’ve made a game of spying on their neighbors.
The event included a presentation by the author, a theatrical reading, viewing of the book trailer, as well as appearances by the “real life” Sophie Young and Grace Yang (two Pasadena middle-school girls who claim Kristen stole their life to write this novel).
There was a great turnout for this event, including many children’s book authors. I personally spotted Lisa Yee, Amy Goldman Koss, Cecil Castellucci, Jennifer Bosworth, Amy Spalding, and Sara Wilson Etienne in the crowd! If you look past the wigs and master disguises, you might see a few of ’em in the photobooth images below!
We were really happy to be a part of this great event and provide everyone with photo-strip bookmarks!
